BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - When Buffalo State College freshman Jabril Muhammed and a group of friends were beaten and robbed Friday night, and Muhammed was shot just blocks from campus, University Police did not lock down the campus.
One parent of a student who was attacked wants to know why.
"Any other college if there was a shooting that close - they lock down the school - I guess not in Buffalo," said Marsha Rosen.
"I guess maybe it's common. I don't know," she said.
Rosen, from Rochester, said her son Ehric was with Muhammed near Grant and Potomac when the robbery and violent confrontation took place.
"When you send your child to college, you don't hope to get a call in the middle of the night stating that your child has been beaten, robbed and then shot," Muhammed's father Larry told Eyewitness News.
College officials said the campus was not locked down because the incident took place nearly a half-mile away and the campus, faculty, staff and students were not in any danger.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said Buffalo Police are making progress in tracking down suspects in this incident, and another in which two women had their purses stolen near campus on Saturday.
Patrols have been increased near Buffalo State College and other city campuses, Brown said.
